Lip Blush Tattoo Procedure
Lip blush tattooing is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that enhances the natural color, shape, and definition of the lips. Using a specialized tattooing technique, pigments are deposited into the lips to create a soft, tinted effect that mimics the look of a subtle lip stain. This treatment is ideal for individuals looking to enhance lip symmetry, correct discoloration, or achieve a more polished, youthful appearance.

Procedure Steps
1. Consultation & Customization
-
The process begins with a consultation where the client's lip goals, color preferences, and natural lip tone are assessed.
-
A custom pigment is mixed to complement the client’s natural undertones.
-
The technician outlines the lips to enhance symmetry and shape.
2. Numbing & Preparation
-
A topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort.
-
The lips are cleansed to ensure a hygienic procedure.
3. Lip Blushing Application
-
Using a digital tattoo machine with a fine needle, pigment is softly deposited into the lips in layers.
-
The artist works in light strokes to build up a natural, sheer wash of color.
-
The process typically takes 2 to 3 hours.
4. Healing & Aftercare
-
Initial healing occurs within 5-7 days, with full results visible after about 4-6 weeks.
-
The lips may appear slightly swollen and darker immediately after the procedure but will lighten during healing.
-
Aftercare includes keeping lips hydrated, avoiding certain foods, and not picking at peeling skin.
Before Care - Lip Blush
To ensure the best possible results for your Lip Blush procedure, please read and follow the guidelines below carefully before your appointment.
1. Lip Preparation
-
Your lips must be well-hydrated before the treatment. Begin applying a high-quality lip ointment such as Aquaphor or Vaseline at least one week prior to your appointment.
-
Gently exfoliate your lips 1 - 2 days before your appointment using a soft toothbrush or a natural sugar or honey scrub. This helps remove dry skin and allows better pigment absorption.
2. Cold Sore Precautions
Lip Blush procedures may trigger cold sores (fever blisters) in some individuals
-
If you have a history of cold sores, please consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding antiviral medication to begin 2 - 3 days prior to your appointment.
-
Topical medications such as Zovirax may be used preventatively during the first week of healing if recommended by your healthcare provider.
-
If you feel tingling, itching, or notice bumps before your appointment, please inform your technician immediately, as your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
Cold sore are a potential risk for all clients, even if you have never had one before.
Important: L-Lysine Supplement
To help reduce the risk of cold sore outbreaks before and after your Lip Blush procedure:
-
It is recommended to take L-Lysine supplements before your appointment
-
L-Lysine is available over the counter at most pharmacies, drugstores, health stores, and Walmart.
-
Begin taking L-Lysine at least 3 - 7 days before your procedure and continue for a few days after the treatment.
-
Follow the dosage instructions on the product label, as directions may vary depending on the brand.
3. Substances to Avoid
To minimize bleeding and improve pigment retention:
-
No alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before your appointment.
-
Avoid soft drinks, energy drinks, or acidic beverages before the procedure.
-
Do not take aspirin or blood-thinning medications 5 days prior unless medically necessary.
-
Avoid Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and other supplements that may thin the blood at least one week before your appointment.
4. Cosmetic Procedures & Medications
-
No Botox, fillers, or dental anesthetics such as Novocain within 10 days before your appointment.
-
Please inform your technician if you are using or have previously used Retin-A, Accutane, or other medications that may affect skin healing.
-
Inform your technician of any medical conditions, medications, or recent cosmetic procedures before treatment.
5. Hair & General Preparation
-
Please wash your hair the morning of your appointment, as prolonged contact with water should be avoided immediately after the procedure.
-
Arrive with clean lips and no lipstick, lip gloss, or lip balm.
Important! These same pre-care steps must also be followed before your touch-up session to ensure consistent healing and optimal results.
After Care - Lip Blush
Lip Blush Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is very important for the appearance, healing, and longevity of your Lip Blush. Please follow these instructions carefully.
Day 1
-
Immediately after the procedure, your lips may feel dry, tight, tender, and slightly swollen. The color may appear bright or intense, which is completely normal.
-
For the first 4 hours, gently blot your lips with a clean paper towel to remove any lymph fluid.
-
After 4 hours, begin applying a thin layer of Aquaphor as needed to keep the lips constantly moisturized.
-
Avoid kissing, rubbing, or any friction on the treated area.
Day 1-3
-
Apply Aquaphor several times a day to keep the lips moist at all times.
-
Avoid oily, spicy, salty, or heavily seasoned foods.
-
Drink using a straw to avoid contact with the lips.
-
After eating, gently rinse your lips with water, pat dry, and reapply ointment.
Day 4-7
During this time, your lips will begin the peeling phase:
-
Lips will flake and peel naturally
-
The color may lighten by 30% - 50%
-
Do not pick, rub, or peel the lips.
-
Continue applying Aquaphor regularly to keep the lips moisturized.
Week 2
-
Peeling is usually complete and the lips may appear lighter than expected.
-
You may return to most normal daily activities.
-
The lips will continue healing and the color will gradually resurface over the next few weeks.
Week 6-8
-
Your lips are fully healed, and the final color will be visible.
-
In most cases, two sessions are required to achieve the best results.
Important: Avoid for 14 Days
To ensure proper healing and pigment retention, please avoid the following:
-
Heavy sweating or intense exercise
-
Swimming or submerging lips in water
-
Hot saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, or Jacuzzi's
-
Sun tanning or tanning beds
-
Direct exposure to UV/UVA rays
-
Chemical peels, laser treatments, or facial treatments
-
Skincare products containing Retin-A, retinol, or glycolic acid on the treated area
-
Touching the lips except when applying ointment with a clean cotton swab
-
Picking, peeling, or scratching the lips (this may cause pigment loss or scarring)
-
Excessive alcohol consumption, which may slow the healing process
Also avoid environments with dust, debris, or airborne particles, such as garage or basement cleaning.
Pre-Procedure Reminder (Cold Sore Prevention)
-
If you are prone to cold sores or fever blisters, it is recommended to take L-Lysine supplements before your appointment. L-Lysine is available over the counter at most pharmacies, Walmart, or health stores.
-
You may start taking L-Lysine 3 - 7 days before your Lip Blush appointment and continue for a few days after the procedure to help reduce the risk of a cold sore outbreak during the healing process.
-
Clients with a history of frequent cold sores may also consider consulting their doctor or pharmacist about antiviral medication prior to the procedure.
Healing Reminder
During the healing process, the lips may appear lighter or patchy. This is completely normal. The pigment will gradually return and settle into its final color within 4 - 6 weeks.
Touch-Up Appointment
Please make sure to book your touch-up appointment 5 - 6 weeks after your initial Lip Blush procedure.
The touch-up session is important to perfect the color, shape, and pigment retention once the lips are fully healed.
If the touch-up appointment is scheduled later than 6 weeks, the color may fade more. This may require additional time, more pigment layering, and extra work to achieve the desired result.
Initial Touch-Up & Long-Term Results
For the most refined and long-lasting results, it is highly recommended to schedule your initial touch-up immediately after your first session.
-
The Initial Touch-Up should be completed within 5- 6 weeks after your first appointment to perfect the color, shape, and pigment retention.
-
The Initial Touch-Up rate is discounted compared to regular or annual touch-ups.
Example:
- Initial Touch-Up (5 - 6 weeks) -- $180
-
Appointments scheduled beyond 6 weeks may require additional time, enhanced correction, and adjusted pricing due to increased fading.
-
Delayed touch-ups may result in more pigment loss, requiring more work, additional time, and higher cost.
My goal is to keep your lips looking beautiful, balanced, and long-lasting while ensuring you feel confident and satisfied with your results.
Annual Touch-Up & Pricing Policy
Annual or delayed touch-ups are considered regular-priced services, as pigment naturally fades over time.
-
Annual Touch-Ups are priced higher than the Initial Touch-Up because they require additional pigment layering and correction.
-
Pricing varies depending on how long it has been since your last session and the level of pigment fading.
-
The longer the time between sessions, the more work is required, therefore pricing may increase accordingly.
-
In cases of significant fading, the procedure may be treated as a new or full session.
This structure ensures fair pricing based on time, pigment retention, and the level of artistry required to restore your lips.
Booking, Rescheduling & Cancellation Policy
-
All deposits are STRICTLY NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERRABLE.
-
If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours' notice so the appointment can be offered to clients on the waiting list.
-
Appointments canceled, missed, or rescheduled within 48 hours will result in forfeiture of the deposit.
-
In the case of a verifiable emergency, a one-time rescheduling may be granted at the artist's discretion.
